London 2010 International Stamp Exhibition

Congratulations are in order for BAMS member Peter Motson who not only received a Large Gold award for his "Newfoundland Airmail Stamps and Airmail Covers 1919-1948 " exhibit but also achieved "Best in Class" in Aerophilately with a magnificent 97 points.
Well done Peter !

A BAMS meeting was held on Thursday 13th May during the LONDON 2010 exhibition at the Business Design Centre Islington.
32 BAMS members and guests from as far afield as Australia New Zealand and the USA enjoyed a most convivial afternoon chaired by our President Peter Lister.

Attendees were invited to present and display one to two frames of aerophilatelic material of their choice . In all 12 members showed a diverse array of material.

It is not possible to list everybody and I apologise , however special mention should be given to overseas presenters ;

Kendall Sanford(USA) entertained us with some mouthwatering Imperial Airways crash covers from Africa and Barry Scott (New Zealand) showed examples of covers flown on the embryonic Cairo Baghdad route along with some rare items of New Zealand WW2 Prisoner of War postal stationery items.

Dieter Leder (Germany) showed us a most remarkable cover flown from China to South
America in 1936 including a leg from Bathurst to Natal by Zeppelin but without the usual Zeppelin cachets, identification possible only by some very determined postmark detective work.

Closer to home Barbara Priddy entertained us with some interesting West African crash mail Laurence Kimpton encouraged some lively discussion on the origins of British Commonwealth Pacific Airlines (BCPA) ,and Grahame Boutle showed some interesting overseas acceptances for the 1931 and 1934 UK to Australia first flights.

I always judge the success of an event by the ability of an audience to keep quiet during presentations and, conversely the inabilty to quickly reconvene after any break because they are still viewing the exhibits and being engaged in heated exchanges of dialogue! I believe we had both of the above in equal
measures.

Secretary BAMS.

The Pillage International Trophy 2011

We have booked a provisional date for this eagerly anticipated rematch with the American Air Mail Society on the 5th November 2011.

This will be the 3rd meeting of the "clans" and we sincerely hope it will be a date to remember.
Perhaps we should be mindful of Guy Fawkes and say that we are hopeful that it will be a day to "remember remember " as we are currently 2-0 down to our Trans-Atlantic cousins in the competition!.

More details to follow.
